CCR question 4

How did you integrate technologies—software, hardware, and online—in this project? Explain different types of tools and technologies that helped you throughout the project: I used a camcorder to be my camera to capture this project with the help of a tripod set up to capture some shots that aren't tracking. I also used Adobe Premiere Pro to edit the movie and have Pixabay to give the sound effects and music needed for this project.  Explain the usefulness of YouTube tutorials and internet research: Internet research helped by showing me some media in horror that gave me the inspiration for this project. With a lot of the inspiration coming from the YouTube series called The Backrooms, it's having its own movie soon. Explain how you learned to use hacks and DIY throughout the project: The costumes were DIY for this film, mainly the monster since it is an old Halloween costume that I had back in middle school, and so I made my mother wear it, and she became the monster in my film...

CCR question 3

click here How did your production skills develop throughout this project? Explain how your skills grew from beginner to intermediate: I started out not knowing what to do when originally making the first round project of the original static doors. Since then, I latched onto my idea and wanted to expand on the world-building for this movie that's normally seen throughout movies. Share the process of research and planning: I was inspired by films like IT and WEAPONS to create this idea of horror. I wanted to create a film where big things were happening in a small town. Since the project has to be shorter than a regular movie, the scale needed to be shrunk down in the story so all criteria could be met. The story had to follow a one-person mystery to figure out what's going on with this noise that starts out from the TV but continues on through doors that aren't normal. That's where the story begins, sort of inspired by the backrooms. Share the process of team collaborat...

CCR question 2

How does your product engage with audiences, and how would it be distributed as a real media text? Explain how you chose your genre and the types of audiences that your genre appeals to: Horror has always been something that I have shown an interest in ever since I was young. Which is ironic because I am a big chicken when it comes to scary stuff. The older I have gotten, the less scared I have become, and it has shaped more into curiosity about the genre. As a fan, it has given me so many ideas inspired by other iterations of horror. It's really nice for it to also have that sense of mystery, which allows for more entertaining horror in my opinion since I grow fond of movies with a plot rather than a psycho killer. Discuss research on audience theories and try to relate your product with them—especially reception theory, participatory culture, cultivation theory, and the hypodermic needle theory: The way that audiences consume media is through promotional teases and build-up hype....

CCR question 1

click here How does your project use or challenge conventions, and how does it represent social groups or issues? Explain your product: My product is a movie or story that focuses on curiosity and the consequences that people have with issues of whether they could but not think about whether they should, sort of like the creation of the dinosaurs in the Jurassic Park franchise. The whole thing is that curiosity leads us to our own downfall and that we need to be safe with what our curiosity leads us to bring. Social issue/group and why did you choose it: Women are normally portrayed as helpless individuals in horror media, and I wanted to go against that by showing how the main character is not afraid of what danger lies ahead and letting her courage guide her. Explain your research of codes and conventions to showcase social issues/groups in film: I decided to use a camcorder to help give an unnatural feel for horror that makes it reminiscent of found footage and goes back to analog h...

The Misunderstanding

I had a huge misunderstanding while filming my project. I did not realize the film was supposed to be 2 minutes. I was under the impression it was a total of 5 minutes. I ended up uploading the longer version of my film, and Mr.Z pointed out my mistake. This led to me having to edit my project down, making this project more difficult. My longer film is still going to be uploaded, but it is not the final project that is going to be submitted to Cambridge.

original concept

The original concept for this movie is about exploring the places and uncovering demons that live behind the doors. The only way to uncover this illogical place is to find static and enter a door close by. It was originally going to be caused by a haunted house with some kids exploring the abandoned place, and one of the kids hears the static and then finds a door. They would then be led to this dystopian place of horrors. One of these doors was going to hide a room full of missing posters of all the victims who have fallen to this place of madness, with the main character finding missing posters of themself.

the story of production

The process of filming began with my actors coming over at my house so we could get started with the first scenes. The opening scene is when the main character wakes up to the noise of static on a TV. Working on the clips for that scene first was important because it set the tone and the plot for the whole film. The next day we went to the beach first to film one scene for the movie. The shadow demon was lurking behind the main character. Then after that location scene wrapped up filming, we moved along to a parking garage to film another location-based scene to allow for more world-building during the film. This is also the same place that we shot the alleyway scene for the movie. Needing an actual ending, we went back to my house a week later, filming the final scene. For the last bit of filming, we had to go back to the alleyway because we originally shot a scene that didn't make sense. So to fix that issue, we did a reshoot of the scene with an alternate ending that integrated ...

cast and crew list

Casting my characters was a little bit tricky due to scheduling conflicts and finding people that were willing to listen to my ideas and be willing to try anything. So I kindly asked some friends and family to help me out with this project of mine. I cast Stephaine Barcelo to be the monster because she was willing to fill that role. No one else would get back to me on agreeing to star in that role. For the main character, I cast Ainsley Rector, as she was willing to be freeing up her schedule to be filming this project and wasn't afraid to have some directive criticism. They both equally helped with this project. They were willing to help me reshoot scenes and gave me some ideas while in the process of making the project.

logo designs

The logo is going to be simple in design. and really showcase the title of the film, rather than an image. I am pulling inspiration from my fonts. They are also shown below. The less the logo shows off, the more mystery there will be.

Plan for an extension

There is a plan to make the movie 5 minutes long as opposed to the aforementioned 2-minute time frame required for this project. I will be able to showcase more of a plot and story in the longer version of this horror project. It makes more sense and allows for more context to create a more in-depth movie.

Editing

The process of editing is a bit tiring. The editing process took roughly two weeks to get through. While editing, I realized I needed to do some reshoots of scenes that were already filmed to help with the flow of the film. All of this was hard because filming is time-consuming, and I had a lot of other schoolwork to take care of. But it was also fun because it allowed me to explore new creative ideas to only make my film better. One of the scenes I had to reshoot was my actress encountering the shadow monster for the first time. Before, it was just the characters running, which didn't make sense. Adding in the encounter improved the flow of my film.
